(New York, NY – March 04, 2011) – Thirty Seconds To Mars today announced new dates have been added to their upcoming North American Closer To The Edge Tour. 8 new dates including 3 college shows at Carthage College, University of Illinois and Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a second show in Montreal due to high demand have been added to the tour routing which was announced last month and kicks off April 8th in San Jose, CA (full schedule below). Thirty Seconds To Mars will play a very special hometown show in Los Angeles on April 9th at the Gibson Amphitheater. They will also headline The Bamboozle Festival on April 29th in Rutherford, NJ.
Last month Thirty Seconds to Mars performed their new single “Closer to the Edge” for the first time on U.S. television on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. Jared Leto did a rare late night interview on Lopez Tonight with George Lopez and the band hosted a screening and Q&A for their controversial “Hurricane” video/short film at the Montalban Theater in Los Angeles before heading to Australia where they are currently touring. They will also play shows in the Middle East and South America including a stop at Lollapalooza Chile before returning home to begin the U.S. spring shows. Since the Dec. 8th, 2009 release of the band’s critically acclaimed third album This Is War (Virgin Records), Thirty Seconds To Mars have played to over 2 million people in 100 cities in 30 different countries, selling out arenas around the world.
“Closer to The Edge” is the third consecutive Top 10 alternative single from This Is War and is the first single to cross to Top 40 radio. “Closer to the Edge” follows “Kings & Queens” and “This Is War,” both singles hit #1 on the alternative radio airplay charts. “Kings & Queens” spent 3-consecutive weeks at the top slot and has sold over 630,000 digital downloads.
Thirty Seconds To Mars have continued to reach new heights since releasing This Is War. The band won their second MTV VMA award in November when they picked up the 2010 VMA for Best Rock Video for “Kings & Queens.” They also won their fourth MTV EMA award in 2010 for Best Rock Band and their fourth Kerrang! Award as winner of the 2010 Best International Band. This Is War has sold over 1 million albums worldwide and has been certified gold in six different countries including Germany, South Africa Austria, Belgium, Australia and double gold in the UK. A deluxe edition of the album with four different album covers was released in November, 2010 which includes “Hurricane 2.0” featuring Kanye West, live covers of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and Kanye West’s “Stronger” which the band recorded for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, and the “Kings & Queens” and “Closer To The Edge” videos along with bonus DVD content.
