30 Seconds To Mars Want To Take You “Closer to the Edge” – Win A Trip To Interview The Band

Jared Leto and the guys from 30 Seconds To Mars want to know what music means to you. That question is the subject of the video for their worldwide smash hit “Closer to the Edge,” as the band asked fans to weigh in on the impact music has on their lives.

When 30 Seconds To Mars asked their fans “What does music mean to you?” they got thousands and thousands of responses. Some of the fans who responded ended up featured in the “Closer to the Edge” music video. As you’ll see, music is the most important thing in some people’s lives. It’s the soundtrack we hear as we go about our day. It’s the rhythm of our beating hearts, and the love song we sing to our families and loved ones. Music is forever captured in our memories, linking together important events with the feelings we experienced as the time. Music helps us express ourselves, helps us to communicate with each other, and to navigate through the difficult times. Our favorite songs comfort us when we need reassurance, and they can remind us of things we promised never to forget.

30 Seconds to Mars Penthouse Show

What a show! What can I say from the moment that I got in line to get in I could already hear people getting turned away. There were so many fans waiting in line at 6:00PM and the show didn’t start until 7:00PM. It was actually very heart breaking to see some of the fans get turned away but from what I could see it was already packed.

When I got to the patio the vibe was really chill. The DJ was playing some classics while people were eating, hanging out and drinking. The food was really good! They had tacos, quesadillas and chips and salsa. Everybody I mean everybody was taking advantage of the free food, there was not one person that didn’t have a plate in their hand.

By 6:30 the place was pretty much packed with all different kinds of people, mostly guys actually. It was to the point where I couldn?t walk without bumping into people. Surprisingly when I went to go get more chips, there was still food and people in line to get food.

The DJ was consistent in playing music that everyone was really jamming to, I could see people by the couches in the lounge area bobbing their heads so the DJ was doing a good job. The DJ was playing from Nirvana to Bob Marley, so it was really chill.

By 6:50 the place was as packed as it could get, there was no room to walk and everyone was pretty much ready to see the band. Everyone got moved to the patio where the band was actually going to perform at 7:00 and everyone sat around the stage, there were even people watching from the balcony up top. Josh came out and introduced himself and announced that the band would come out shortly.

The band was very quick at coming out and when they did the crowd went crazy, that’s when I really knew that there were actually girls around because I could hear them screaming once Jared Leto came out. Only Jared and Tomo Mili?evi? came out to the stage. Shannon Leto was there but he wasn’t on stage. As soon as Jared came out he started coughing and told everyone that he was really sick and to not get close to him. He?s actually a pretty funny guy, he was joking the whole time.

Jared and Josh talked for a bit about how Jared felt about coming home and being sick while performing and Jared said that he didn’t really mind, at least they didn’t cancel. Jared then asked the crowd what song they wanted them to play and the crowd started screaming a whole bunch on different songs but the one that stood out the most was “Hurricane” so he sang that one first. That crowd started singing along with him to the point where he stopped singing and the crowd took over. He didn’t completely sing the whole song he just did a short version of it.

After that song, Josh asked him another question which was “How was it traveling to Haiti” and Jared said that he always loved Haiti and loved that the people there always managed to be so sweet and a true inspiration. That got him talking about the book that he wrote, which is called, “Plan for Haiti” and it basically talks about his journey of going to Haiti when he was a little kid to now. He?s also going back to Haiti help and raise money. After that he sang “Alibi” and it was a slower song so everyone was really quiet and he didn’t really like that so he stopped singing it and said he wasn?t going to sing anymore if no one else sang with him. The crowd then started saying “No! Keep singing” So then he started singing “From Yesterday” and the crowd really responded to that song. Jared had a smile on his face and said “That’s what I’m talking about.”

Josh then asked him the last question which was “When are they going to start recording again?” Jared basically responded that there was a lot going on right now with touring in different countries, from Europe to Asia to back to the US. He said that they were probably going to be touring until September so they were pretty busy with their schedule. Jared also said that he’s written about a hundred songs but none of which he thought were worthy to be on an album.

The band then started playing “Kings and Queens” and everybody I mean everybody was singing this song. Jared started off by saying that he wanted the crowd to start the song with “woows” because the beginning of the song starts with them “woowing” (if that makes sense) so they crowd went crazy with that, it was pretty awesome to experience. Even Jared was surprised at how the crowd reacted. Then after that they finished with “War” and everyone really responded to that as well.

None of the songs he sang were full songs, they were just versions of the songs. After that everyone lined up to take pictures with band. The line was pretty long but it went really fast. I thought it was really neat that everyone was able to take pictures with the band. Other than the fact that it was really cold it was awesome! The fans really liked it and were really supportive of the band. It was a really great show!

Hot Dude Of The Day: Jared Leto's Built-In Shearling Hand Muffs

Jared Leto spotted in West Hollywood on March 15.
Photo: PacificCoastNewsOnline

Listen, muffs aren't cool on dudes (no pervy low-hanging-fruit jokes here, people), but somehow Jared Leto's shearling-pocket-muff-trench-hybrid thing makes keeping warm kind of awesome. The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman was spotted outside Red O Mexican restaurant (mmmmm... enchiladas) in West Hollywood wearing baggy black pants, a black tee, Creative Recreation Dicoco High Top Vapor sneakers, and a military-esque gray coat with shearling-lined pockets that scream, "LOOKKK ATTT MEEEEE!!! I AM KEEPIN' ISH TOASTAAAY." Mr. Leto never fails to amaze us with his incredibly fascinating outwear choices: first a giant snuggie poncho, then a fringed shoulder pad jacket, and now a muff-trench. What will Jared wear next?! We're banking on a SUPER amazing (and spring-ish!) denim jacket with tons of studs and leather, a collar trimmed in 24k gold, and, like, lasers that shoot out of his buttons while simultaneously wafting the smell of pancakes into every room he enters. MAKE THIS HAPPEN, JARED.

30 Seconds to Mars talks about upcoming concert

It’s not every day that a song comes along and is instantly adopted as a battle cry. But that’s just what This Is War has done. From being used at anti-legislation protests in the US and anti-government rallies in Iran and home-made protest videos on YouTube, the song, written by 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto, has attained anthemic proportions.

“To the right, to the left, we will fight till the death; To the edge of the Earth; It’s a brave new world,” Leto screams in the song, also the title of their third album.

That war is coming to Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Shannon Leto, the band’s drummer and a founding member, tells tabloid! it’s quite poignant to be coming to the region at this time. The band, he says, was going through its own transformation when his brother Jared wrote the song two years ago.

“We were going through major changes,” he says. “We were being sued for $30 million [Dh110.18 million] by our former label and had to finance our own album, a new president was being sworn in in the US and the financial world was having a melt-down.

“I think if we weren’t going through those experiences, we wouldn’t have the album we have today. It wouldn’t sound like it does and it wouldn’t have been called This Is War.

“But sometimes you have to go to war and fight for what you believe in and fight for what is fair. And here we are today,” he adds.

We catch up with angsty rocker Jared Leto ahead of his Dhabi gig

[...] ‘To tell you the truth, I still don’t really think I can sing,’ he says on the phone from LA . ‘I suppose I just have that part of me that refuses to not walk through it, regardless of what I think. I’m really compelled to make music, and to write songs and to sing, it’s beyond a reasonable doubt. It’s something that, if I were more rational, I’m not sure I would have continued to do all these years. Really, it’s been nothing short of compulsion. I remember when I was a kid walking home from school I would mimic the voices of some of the singers that I loved.’

What kinds of singers? ‘Oh, everyone from Robert Plant to Bono. But I’ve never had a singing lesson, it’s never been something that I’ve pursued except in my own songs. Like, I was never in a cover band, I never was in a jam band. I’ve only ever written songs.’

Despite their reputation as a teen-friendly emo band, Jared denies they fall into this bracket.

‘I always quote Andy Warhol when asked this,’ he says. ‘Labels are for cans, not for people!’

He also insists that 30 Seconds’ fan base covers a variety of demographics, with people of all ages turning out for his shows. So is it strange, as a 39-year-old man, to look out into a crowd and see middle-aged males next to adolescent girls?

‘It’s always surprising, and we all get a kick out of it. I love seeing the different types of people at the shows, and it’s not uncommon to see, like you said, a young 12-year-old boy or a 40-year-old guy. It’s a pretty disparate audience and I really enjoy that. You don’t choose your audience. Anyone has the right to listen to these

30 Seconds to Mars Promise ‘Greatest Time Of Your Lives’

[...] With music critics at last month’s Soundwave Festival in Sydney, Australia bowled over by Jared’s ability to energetically “bounce around the stage” during the band’s performance, lead guitarist and keyboard player Tomo Milicevic also spoke out about the band’s impending Yas Islands Show Weekends 2011 gig at the FLASH Forum, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

“I know Jared’s been trying for a while to get to some different places,” he told Beat magazine. “For us, touring is… about the experience. We want to travel and we want to see different places, and if there’s people out there who want to have a concert experience with Thirty Seconds To Mars we’ll come there.

“We want to experience different cultures and just see what’s out there. We have this amazing opportunity to contribute to local culture in a way that’s unique, and we feel very lucky about that.”

So, what can the Gulf’s Thirty Seconds To Mars fans expect from the LA-based rock band’s first live show in the region?

“We justwant to go out and give people the greatest time of their lives,” says Tomo.
